› Gallhammer- Ill Innocence
For those unfamiliar with Gallhammer, they are a female fronted, Japanese Black metal trio. This will probably have you running for the hills shouting "novelty act" but it's far from the truth. Gallhammer bring a dark, gloomy and raw sound, which is needed in the current stale Black Metal scene.
Ill innocence is Gallhammer's debut studio album for label Peaceville and is sure to become an underground classic! Although a Black metal album the gloomy effect which is present throughout should give it an appeal to fans of doom or any other underground music as much as fans of Darkthrone, Burzum etc.
The tracks are varied enough to keep you interested throughout the album. From Darkthrone on acid "Speed of pain" to a more Celtic frost approach "SLOG." Aswell as the album music wise being among the best Black Metal albums this year, the artwork is incredible with a simple, bleak design.
It really is hard to find a fault with this album. Obviously it won’t have a wide appeal but it deserves to be hailed as a cult classic.
