›Hayseed Dixie Manchester Academy 3 1/9/07

Openers Neck were an Irish folk rock band. Most of the set were covers of folk songs and odd punk song by the likes of Therapy or the Sex Pistols. I wasn’t that keen on them but as openers they were ok.

A quick change over and Hayseed Dixie amble onstage and play their own soundcheck. At first people think it’s the rodies until they realise it’s the band. The set is made up of bluegrass versions of classic rock song such as ‘breaking the law’ by Judas Priest and Motorhead’s ‘Ace Of Spades’. The band were good fun but to as the set went on a lot of it started to sound very samey. Especially when they played their orginal songs. At one point the singer making sexist jokes and what he said didn’t go down too well and he didn’t get the response that he was looking for so he quipped ‘well we don’t give a f---- because we’ve already got your money’. This didn’t sit too well.

All in all it was a really fun night and a good laugh. However the novelty soon wore off and at £15 a ticket I don’t think I’ll bother going to see them a second time.
