› Hi HeadBangers!
This is just a message to give a little insight into the last year of goings on here at HB-HQ, most of all it’s as the banner says, a thank you!
A year and a half ago I started this little venture with my good friend Bill. He had the name and we had the idea, it soon became a reality on Friday the 13th of October 2006. This was no picnic however as our site had been completely redesigned right before publishing, I had little/no knowledge of how to write script. This meant we were riddled with errors constantly and had a lot of broken links. We had very few contributors also, this made it even harder. In December I got disconnected from the web due to a F-up by sky. From this I was cut off for three months and only returned for the March edition. Headbang was going down, Bill had no time to do it alone and it was killing him, it is just too much for one person. When I came back, I decided it was to be improved fully. I worked flat out for March and April’s issues, almost killing myself in the process.
By this time the stress was just too much for my partner and his marriage and life in general, he had to bow out, which I still believe was the right choice for him as he wasn’t enjoying it anymore, and if you aren’t having fun, don’t do it! I got some people to help me from there and since have really smoothed up the running of the site. The team has grown massively and diversified further into new genres. Headbang was into its own, and with the site redesign fresh in July it was looking better than it ever had, still the numbers weren’t coming in… Site fee’s were due and HB was on the chopping block well and truly… and probably would not have got off had the summer teaser and special issues not generated such a huge increase in activity, the site is now viewed by more than 10,000 people per week. This is not due to efforts of any one person, it is a team effort and every person has pulled together to create a really top notch ‘zine. We still have our flaws but we are getting there!
So now we are at the one year that looked never to be only 2 months ago! So thank you. To all the team who have worked hard this past year whether still with HB or not, to Bill for helping get this up and running, to my co-editors over the last few months for really helping get it published when I was in a bind, to Becki for doing everything she has since starting, including getting the my-space site going and also publishing the last couple of issues almost solo due to my leg injury. Thank you to Ian for helping me get the website and forum switched and even spending his birthday fixing the forum up, to my fiancé Claire for putting up with me spending soooo much time on this the last 18 months and finally to every last person who makes the effort to come online every week and read this crazy publication, you are supporting the metal community and you are the reason I do what I do…. and I do it for the freebies, of coarse… ;-)
So, just to summarise – Thank you to Everyone involved!
