› Panic At The Disco – Pretty Odd
OK, cue the screams of “EMO,” “Scene Kids,” and “What the hell are a band like THAT doing in a metal ‘zine?!” However, Panic’s previous effort, “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” was undeniably catchy, and most definitely a soundtrack for summer. So, have they done it again?

Pretty Odd is an album which, despite showing relative musical progression since “A Fever..”, still maintains a sound scape of bright, vibrant, eccentric tones that create cheery imagery – one of the things that Panic fans fell in love with to start with.
Given the mainstream success of “A Fever..,” it would be easy to speculate the “difficult second album” for the band, especially when taken into consideration the fact that a) If the band made the same album again, they would be forgotten about pretty quickly but also b) If the band changed too much, they would lose fans. I feel that Pretty Odd is most definitely a middle ground, combining the happy, catchy, sing-a-long vibes with the dark undertones of a Tim Burton affectionate.
Pretty Odd should be taken as it is. It isn’t an amazing technical album, it doesn’t contain jaw-dropping lyrics, and nor is it anything but a mainstream pop record. However, Panic don’t claim to be anything different, and as far as being an album you can sit outside in the garden, have a BBQ, etc etc (presuming the weather continues to be as fabulous as it currently is) you can’t go wrong!
7/10
